Meet the Artist
A Thing of Beauty is a boutique hair and makeup artistry studio built on one founding principle: that every person deserves to feel extraordinary.
With over 15 years of professional experience, Amelia brings a rare combination of technical mastery, creative intuition and genuine passion to every chair. Her career began in the prestige beauty retail industry, representing iconic brands including MAC Cosmetics — an experience that took her backstage at Africa Fashion International shows as an events artist, working under pressure, at pace, and at the highest standard.
Since then, Amelia has built a reputation as a trusted artist across the full spectrum of beauty — bridal, events, film, television commercials and editorial photography. She stays ahead of every trend while keeping the timeless techniques alive, ensuring each look she creates is both current and enduring.
What sets A Thing of Beauty apart is the 360° approach. From your very first consultation through to the moment you walk out the door, Amelia is invested in your journey — advising on hair and makeup choices, sharing expert preparation tips, and making sure every detail is considered. She doesn't just do your makeup. She listens, collaborates and brings your vision to life.
A Thing of Beauty also believes deeply in the power of beauty education — offering personalised one-on-one makeup lessons and group workshops that empower clients to carry that confidence long after the occasion has passed.
You are not just booking a makeup artist. You are booking a professional who will make you look and feel absolutely extraordinary — whatever the occasion.

I offer a complete bridal experience from pre-wedding trial through to the final look on the day: long-wearing, camera-ready and deeply personal. I tailor each application to suit the atmosphere, the lighting and the energy of your event, ensuring you arrive feeling confident, beautiful and completely at ease.
All occasionsWhether it's a matric dance or a formal showcase, this is your night to shine — and your makeup should be every bit as memorable as the moment itself. I create bold, stage-ready looks that photograph beautifully, hold under bright lights and move with you through every dance, every photo and every memory made on the floor.
Stage & floor readyOn set, every detail is magnified. Whether you're shooting a feature film, television commercial or editorial photographic campaign, I bring precision, speed and a deep understanding of how makeup performs under professional lighting and in front of a lens. From natural skin-forward looks to high-concept character work, I collaborate closely with directors and photographers to deliver exactly what the vision demands — take after take.

The Fine Print
Please read these carefully before booking. By confirming your appointment, you agree to the following terms.
A non-refundable 50% deposit is required to reserve your event date. This deposit secures your makeup artist, hair stylist, any assistant artists needed and covers administration costs. Your date is not held until this deposit has been received.
Trial costs are additional to your event fee and will be itemised on your invoice. All trials must be paid for alongside your deposit before the appointment commences. Trials are typically scheduled 4–6 weeks prior to the wedding and are allocated up to 1.5 hours per person. Should additional time be required, a second trial may be arranged at an extra charge. Trial dates are subject to change to accommodate weddings, or in the event of illness or incapacity on either side.
The pricing quoted at time of booking is honoured in full, regardless of any rate changes leading up to your event. All payments are to be made via EFT — no cash deposits are accepted. The final balance is due no later than 2 days before your event. Failure to settle the balance in full by this date reserves the right for all booked services to be cancelled.
Once a booking is confirmed, the number of artists secured is fixed — regrettably, no reductions to the party can be made. Should additional services be required, the invoice will be amended subject to artist availability on your event date. The booking fee is non-transferable to another party.
Should you need to cancel, please notify the MUA in writing as soon as possible. Cancellations within 60 days of the event are liable for the full contracted amount, as alternative bookings are unlikely to be secured at short notice. For cancellations outside of 60 days, the 50% deposit is non-refundable. If a trial has already been conducted, that fee is also non-refundable. Where no trial has taken place, the trial fee will be refunded within 14 days of written cancellation notice.
In the rare event that the makeup artist is unable to fulfil the booking due to circumstances beyond their control, and no suitable replacement can be arranged, a full refund will be issued. No further compensation will be offered. For circumstances entirely outside the artist's control — including weather, loadshedding, safety incidents or medical emergencies — the artist will endeavour to find solutions, but cannot be held liable. Event insurance is strongly recommended.
It is the client's responsibility to disclose any known skin sensitivities, allergies or medical conditions prior to the trial or event. All information shared is treated as strictly confidential. The makeup artist cannot be held liable for any reaction arising from undisclosed conditions. The artist reserves the right to decline service to any client or party member displaying abusive or threatening behaviour. It is recommended that contact lenses be applied before makeup application begins.
Travel is charged upon quotation. For destination events requiring overnight travel, hotel and flight costs are payable by the client and will be agreed upon in writing in advance of the event date.
In the event of loadshedding on the day of a trial or wedding, it is the client's responsibility to ensure adequate power supply at the venue — whether via generator or alternative arrangement. The artist cannot be held responsible for delays or incomplete services resulting from power failure at the client's venue.
All client records are stored securely and handled in full compliance with the POPIA Act. Your personal information is treated as strictly confidential and will never be shared with any third party without your express consent.
Should your event be postponed due to a pandemic or national emergency, your booking fee is transferable to a mutually agreed new date — provided the new date falls within one year of the original event date. All postponement requests must be submitted in writing.
